After dodging a bullet by an armed burglar, an eight-months pregnant Florida woman saved her husband and pre-teen daughter by returning fire with an AR-15 style rifle, killing one of the intruders.

Jeremy King was inside his Tampa home on Wednesday around 9 p.m., when two masked men barged through the door. According to Spectrum News, both men pointed pistols at the victim while demanding money. “They came in heavily hooded and masked,” he said. “As soon as they had got the back door opened, they had a pistol on me and was grabbing my 11-year-old daughter.”

King quickly became the victim of several pistol-whipped blows to the head while a second masked man was repeatedly kicking him. The victim would later have a fractured eye socket, sinus cavity, 20 stitches and three staples to his head. King’s eight-month pregnant wife, who was in the bedroom, peeked into the room to see what was all the commotion.

One of the men fired a shot at her. That was when she grabbed an AR-15 and returned fire, killing one of the men who was later found in a ditch. “Them guys came in with two normal pistols and my AR stopped it,” King said to Spectrum. “[My wife] evened the playing field and kept them from killing me.”
