Open enrollment on HealthCare.gov is now open for 2020. And during our third WINK News Roundtable, we talked about the option changes that will be seen for the coming year.

We got together with our usual panel of locals from all walks of life during the WINK News Roundtable to get their viewpoint on the cost of health care, something that likely keeps a lot of us up at night in Southwest Florida.

One of the local business owners on the panel spoke about the struggles of working against larger companies that offer health benefits and the impact that has on their business and prospective employees looking for work. Everyone on our panel agreed that is a big problem whether you’re hiring or looking for work.

Another focus was on the affordability of Medicare. One of our panelists explained, with the way Medicare is set up, it’s hard to afford extra benefits due to high insurance rates.

And others mentioned most companies don’t offer the kind of health packages that benefited people and their families in the past.

Many more topics on health care affordability and systemic realities of the makeup of health insurance locally and nationwide were discussed by our panel. Unfortunately, we didn’t solve the problem, but we hopefully highlighted how complex a solution will be.

We want you to be part of the conversation. Head to WINK News Anchor Chris Cifatte’s Facebook page to weigh in on this edition of the WINK News Roundtable.
