For many beach goers, the journey to get over the bridge to Fort Myers Beach isn’t the only obstacle you have to go through, once you are there finding parking can be an issue.

Especially during season, it can be impossible to find any spots, but on Wednesday, the town is working on a way to fix that.

On a typical day in season, finding a spot near the times square can be hard, as they fill up quickly, and many look to the private owned spots as the next option.

The town did a study on existing lots to figure out ways they can improve parking moving forward.

A big focus is those private lots versus government owned lots. They say many beach goers tend to go to the privately owned shared lots first before going to city owned spots like the ones on Old San Carlos and 5th Street.

The town may design an app that will show people where available parking is on the island in real time before you head over the bridge.

That way if parking is full, beach goers can decide to take public transportation like the trams ahead of time.

WINK News talk to visitors who say they are all for it.

“Most people like to park as close as they can, so there’s never any parking spots up here but if they develop that app and can tell you where there might be spaces, that’d be wonderful,”Sandy Sakefski said.

The town also talked about tightening up some of their rules regarding privately owned lots. They say they would like the signs on street parking to be the same as what’s in private lots.
