A Port Charlotte man died soon after being rescued from capsized boat in Charlotte Harbor, near Boca Grande, Sunday morning while one other man survived. The boat capsized in the intercoastal waterway between Cayo Costa and Sandfly Key Sunday around 11:30 a.m. Charlotte County Fire and EMS said they received a call for help for a boat that capsized with two passengers aboard, Eli Mack, 46, and Calogero Polizzi, 63. Mack was pulled from the water before rescue crews made it to the scene. The other passenger, Polizzi, was stuck in the cabin and had to be rescued by divers using SCUBA gear, or first responder rapid underwater driver packs. CPR began in Polizzi as they transported him to a dock on Boca Grande, where Lee County EMS was waiting to transport him to the Englewood Community Hospital. Doctors pronounced Polizzi deceased at the hospital. FWC is leading the investigation to determine what happened.
