A man succumbed to his injuries on Saturday after losing control of his motorcycle around a curve in Cape Coral.

Shawn Michael O’Brien was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle at the 2800 block of County Rd 884 on Saturday around 3 p.m. Moving at a fast speed around a curve, the motorcycle left the roadway onto a grassy area, the Cape Coral Police Dept. press release states.

The motorcycle left the roadway and went about 500 feet into the grassy area before it fell into the grass and then began to tumble. Soon afterward, O’Brien was ejected from the motorcycle, per the release. O’Brien was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and police said the “traffic crash is alcohol/drug related.”

O’Brien suffered life-threatening injuries and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital by an ambulance. He died Saturday evening.
