There is a dispute between a mother and father, who is also a local law enforcement officer, over who should get the rights to their son’s estate.

New court documents confirm Sergio Perez, a Lee County Deputy is under investigation for the death of his son, Ramon Perez, in Cape Coral.

According to court documents, Ramon’s mother filed a petition to take over Ramon’s estate and said Sergio should not get any part of it.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed the deputy’s connection to the investigation. But LCSO confirmed, Sergio is on administrative leave when we asked.

Cape Coral Police Department said an off-duty Lee County deputy stopped by Ramon’s mother’s home when a fight broke out between him and his son.

By the time Lee County EMS arrived, they say Ramon was unresponsive.

Fernando Tamayo and his wife live next-door to the deputy and were shocked by the news.

“Say if there is damage here, he help me,” Tamayo said. “He help me all the time.”

We tried to speak to Sergio about Ramon’s mother asking for their son’s entire estate if he is charged and found guilty, but we did not receive a response.

We also tried to speak with Ramon’s mother, but she also did not provide a response.

With no answers on the nature of Ramon’s death, people are left confused.

“He help me,” Tamayo said. “He’s a good guy too.”

Ramon’s cause of death remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed with the case ongoing.
