As first responders on the east coast of the state brace for Hurricane Dorian, crews from Southwest Florida are responding to assist them.

Crews from Cape Coral, Englewood, Charlotte County, Estero, San Carlos Park, Fort Myers and South Trail fire departments are on standby to conduct searches and rescues in areas that face significant damage from Dorian.

“They are always willing to go and help whenever they can,” said Chief Kevin Easton from the Englewood Area Fire Control District.

Right now, many are staging in the Miami area and will move further north based on Dorian’s path.

“Their job is to help people,” Easton said. “In instances like this, when there could be total devastation in areas, that’s what these guys are trained for. That’s what they live for.”
