Many people in Fort Myers hit the stores after work on Wednesday and it shows on the shelves.

Several supermarkets had empty shelves where water was supposed to be, leading many people to message us about concerns of supplies running low.

Donna Bobier, who lives in Fort Myers, said within the half-hour she was at a store, the supply of water became depleted. The uncertainty surrounding Hurricane Dorian is driving her to stock up for the first time this season.

“I don’t even think we stocked up last year,” Bobier said.

Others, who have lived through dangerous storms, are not taking any chances. That means keeping the gas tank full.

Bruce Dorfman, who also lives in Fort Myers, said you have to fill up.

“You got to take everything in measure, you know,” Dorfman said. “It could go up to Jacksonville, but most likely, it might come across the state.”

Water, gas and batteries are top items being bought as locals take the storm seriously.

“It’s just better safe than sorry,” Nicholas Barnes said, “is our course of action.”
