A kind deed could have turned deadly in the parking lot of a Lehigh Acres Walgreens after a dangerous hitchhiker threatened a mother and her children with a knife. But, her quick thinking may have saved their lives.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies said a woman was strapping her kids in the car when the man asked them for a ride.

Marilyn Murr-Sherlock said mothers always have to look over their shoulders.

“We just have to be extra aware of everybody,” Murr-Sherlock said. “It’s pretty scary and it’s hard to say what you would actually do.”

The quick-thinking mom noticed the danger and quickly locked her kids inside the car to protect them from the man. When she ran for help, he ran off. The man was last seen asking for a ride to Bonita Springs.

“This guy is not going to get away with it,” Murr-Sherlock said.
