Labor Day Weekend is big business in Fort Myers Beach. With Tropical Storm Dorian lurking nearby this weekend, many companies are worried people will not flock to the sand in large numbers.

Eddie Bedward manages a Jet-Ski rental business for 13 years. He has noticed people flock to the beach during Labor Day weekend. But if people stay home because of Dorian, Bedward worries the financial hit could be hard on his bottom line.

He said it is nature’s will. “You can’t do nothing about it.”

That anxiety is shared by Lueis Rodriguez, who is visiting from Puerto Rico. Rodriguez is already on vacation but fears what he will come back to upon returning to the island, especially the safety of his family.

“They need help or something like that, you cannot be available to help them,” Rodriguez said. “That’s the difficult part.”

All businesses and tourists can do now is wait. For the latter, Rodriguez tells WINK News his family is already stocking up on supplies. He is in constant communication with his father and sister, making sure they are prepared. However, still, there are limits in communication when Dorian makes an impact Wednesday evening.

“I have no idea what is going to happen because we are not there,” Rodriguez said. “We are not there.”
