1 dead in North Fort Myers crash on Littleton Rd

Authorities responded to a fatal crash that killed a man in North Fort Myers Sunday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol confirmed a 71-year-old man driving a 1995 Chevrolet Astro van was killed in a crash involving another vehicle along Littleton Road near Aluminum Road close to noon.

According to the crash report, the driver of the van was going west on Littleton Rd. just past Aluminum Rd. when he pulled into the driveway of a storage facility, hitting a gate access code box.

The driver of a 2012 Chevy Silverado pickup truck was heading west on Littleton toward the Aluminum Rd. intersection when the driver of the van backed out of the driveway onto the roadway directly into the pathway of of the truck. The driver of the truck made an evasive maneuver, and the truck’s front end and side hit the right side of the van. This caused the van to overturn into the grassy shoulder of the road.

The 71-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and their name release is pending next-of-kin notification.

The driver, an adult passenger and a 2-year-old in the truck had minor injuries. All three were taken to nearby hospitals.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County EMS and North Fort Myers Fire Department also responded to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
