It is not a parking spot. But cars are still parking in the middle of sidewalks in one Cape Coral neighborhood. Now, people who live nearby said it is a safety hazard forcing people to walk in the street or on someone’s yard.

By using the sidewalks, some cars in Cape Coral make it impossible to get around on a power wheelchair or for motorized scooters.

On streets where kids live, parents like Celest Puls said it is a tragedy waiting to happen.

”Kids on bicycles or scooters have to go around,” Pulse said. “Or on the street, which isn’t a good idea.”

Especially on busy Viscaya Pkwy.

”We’ve seen traffic going pretty fast and we’ve seen wrecks out there, too,” Puls said.

Neighbors do not want anyone taking chances and it is also illegal. Cape Coral Police Dept. officers put out photos that remind drivers of the dangers. CCPD said you could be towed for obstructing traffic and be given a citation.

Jeff Mcellane said drivers should pay a price.

“If it’s wrong,” McEllane said, “they should be penalized for it.”
