The 20th Judicial Circuit Court reports Yuzo Nishi, 33, of East Naples has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his mother back in 2016. A jury found Nishi guilty of Second-Degree Murder in June. Yuzo Nishi (Collier County Case #16-CF-2201) is sentenced to life in prison for 2nd-Degree Murder. — 20th Circuit Florida (@SWFLCourts) August 20, 2019 Nishi was arrested in December 2016 for killing his mother, Maria Bertalmio, who was 51 at the time of her death. Nishi and Bertalmio were involved in a struggle involving a knife that led to a stabbing that killed Bertalmio. Nishi told the sheriff’s office and the court on multiple occasions he acted in self-defense. But the court did not side with him.
