Sanibel Island is JR Aston’s favorite spot to go. He said for two big reasons.

“I like clean water,” said Aston while laughing, “and big fish.”

But, the water off the causeway is not looking its cleanest right now.

In a WINK News drone video, the aerial photo shows a sizeable murky area. Scientists said recent rain brought more freshwater to Sanibel Island’s shorelines. It has turned the water a dark tea-like color and knocking the salinity levels off.

Scientists said the dark water could affect clams, oysters and seagrass.

“Any time you’re affecting the wildlife and stuff like that,” Mike Leoni said, “it’s definitely a concern.”
