Lehigh Acres school bus crash leaves 8-year-old passenger with injuries

An 8-year-old has been taken to the hospital following a school bus crash in Lehigh Acres Monday morning.

A GMC truck, driven by David Hughes, 18, was moving eastbound on Eisenhower Blvd. approaching Grant Blvd., according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release. The Lee County school bus was moving northbound on Grant Blvd. approaching Eisenhower Blvd.

Hughes did not stop at a Stop sign, per the release. The front portion of his truck struck the left side of the school bus. An 8-year-old was taken to Health park Hospital with minor injuries.

At the time of the crash, around 7:50 a.m., there were five kids on the bus, which was heading to Gateway Elementary School.
