With less than a week until all of Southwest Florida is back in school, there are still chances to get free back to school supplies for your student.

Thursday, the Salvation Army will be handing out over 400 backpacks to students in need, filled with crayons, notebooks, pencils, pens and other supplies. Salvation Army says not all qualify to get the free supplies, but more than 60% are eligible.

“We never want a family, a mother or father, a grandparent, to have to make a decision between paying a bill, and putting food on the table, or providing school supplies for their child,” Captain Ben Bridges of Collier County Salvation Army said.

Even though they are handing out supplies today, they still need some supplies…specifically notebooks.

If you would like to donate, they are asking you to drop off items at 1472 Airport Pulling Road in Naples.

The backpack handouts will continue on Friday in Immokalee. The Salvation Army in Lee County will also be handing out backpacks in Bonita Springs and Lehigh Acres.
