School resource officers in Lee County did not get a summer break. They spent their summer helping students stay active and out of trouble – all part of a free summer camp for students.

Commander Mike Miller, of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, wants to educate kids, developing important skills while staying active as they recover during their summer break from another year of school.

“Idle minds, idle fingers, they get in trouble, they end up getting mischievous, they end up getting into things they shouldn’t get into,” Miller said. “This gives them a purpose, this gives them something to do.”

Reporter Taylor Petras shows us how it is also helping the relationship between students and the officers.
