Expectations are high for the Fort Myers Green Wave heading into the 2019 high school football season.

It’s the beginning of the end of a long era as running back Yasias Young enters his senior year.

Young burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2016 as a compliment to Darrien Felix.

Back then, Young was just a freshman who only had to play. With three years under his belt, Young is an obvious voice in that locker room.

“I’m not the only one … a leader in this group,” Young said. “I’ve got other guys but coming from four years everybody already looks up to me.”

The choice to pick Young as captain was absolute.

“We go to pick captains here in the next week or two,” head coach Sam Sirianni Jr. said. “I told them he would have been a unanimous choice anyway, but I made an executive decision.”

Joining Young in the Greenies back field will be junior quarterback Carter Lane. The 6′ 2″, 170 lb. quarterback was thrown into the fire as a sophomore last year when Willie Neal was injured.
