With fast drivers and a lack of traffic lights, people who live along Joel Blvd. in Lehigh Acres said the road is dangerous and something needs to be done.

Audrey, who lives there, said the drivers are aggressive.

“You have speeding cars,” Audrey said, “that think they’re on a raceway here sometimes, you know.”

Lee County said there had been 185 accidents along the four-mile stretch of Joel Blvd. from 17th St. to Country Club Pkwy. since 2015.

“I’ve only seen one accident, just further down the street just last weekend,” Bill said. “Looked like a truck had pulled out in front of another truck. They need to put lights or something has to be done.”

Traffic lights are one option Lee County is considering. Also on the list, adding crosswalks and reducing the speed limit.

“They need to do something with people crossing over especially with the speeding cars,” Audrey said. “People have to get to the mall they have to get to the Dollar Store. There’s no sidewalk on this side.”
