Homeowners told investigators they were forced to shoot a dog after it attacked them. The dog’s owner said their pet is not normally aggressive. Luckily, the dog will make a full recovery.

Cape Coral Police Department responded to the report of a dog attack and shooting at a home off 36th Street north of Del Prado Boulevard.

According to CCPD, Beastie, a 6-year-old German shepherd, escaped his family’s double-fenced backyard when a family member was doing yard work.

Police say Beastie ran across the street to a neighbor’s home and bit a woman on her back, hand and left scratch marks on her legs.

The dog’s owner said her ex-husband and 17-year-old daughter ran to the neighbor to try to stop him, but he continued to be aggressive.

That’s when the woman who was attacked said her husband grabbed a handgun and shot multiple times at the dog to protect his family and himself.

Although the police report says two shots were, fired, Beastie’s family said he was shot in the neck, the leg and a third shot missed him creating a hole in their garage door across the street.

Beastie’s owners said he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police said the woman attacked was treated for minor injuries at her home.

It’s important to note both families involved do not hold animosity toward each other.

They both said it’s a very unfortunate situation and want to continue living peacefully with each other.
