Hundreds of teachers are headed back to school and they are getting a big welcome on Friday.

On Friday, more than 200 new teachers for the School District of Lee County will have a chance to attend some final sessions before they get to meet their new students. The courses focus on teaching techniques, the curriculum and ways to incorporate technology in their classrooms.

Jordan Neal, a recent college graduate, will be teaching the sixth-grade leadership class at Lehigh Acres Middle School. Neal told WINK News he is taking advantage of the last two weeks to digest the sessions to incorporate fun ways to learn into his lesson plans.

“When you’re a student, you don’t want to just sit there and be lectured,” Neal said. “What they are trying to teach us is to get the kids involved. More and more teamwork because at the end of the day in a work environment, you’re all working together.”

Teachers return to school on Aug. 5 to prepare for the first day of class on Aug. 12.
