On Thursday, Fort Myers Police Department arrested Davina Dawson, 28, and Ahkeem Clark, 30, for housing six children under “deplorable” living conditions at a home in Fort Myers.

According to the press release, officers responded to an apartment on the 4200 block of Romeo Lane after receiving a report of a disturbance between a man and woman. When FMPD entered the home they found no working electricity, feces on the floor, a strong odor of urine, thousands of bugs and cockroaches, piles of clothing on the floor and spoiled food throughout the residence.

According to the press release, “No consumable food or drinks, including appropriate baby formula, could be located. And the children’s bedrooms had no linens, and fecal matter was found on the floors.”

FMPD called Florida Department of Children and Families to the scene, and representatives took the children under their care. Code enforcement was also called to inspect the apartment. The children removed from the home were ages 1, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 12.

Dawson and Clark both admitted to being aware of unsafe living conditions and said they never attempted to call the property manager.

Dawson and Clark both face charges for six counts of felony Neglect of a Child and six counts of misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

Both Dawson and Clark are in Lee County Jail without a set bond amount.
