A smoother commute was the reason behind the $55-million intersection overhaul on State Road 82 and Daniels Parkway, that allows for a continuous flow of traffic, and eases congestion.

Now that the intersection has been completed, was the project worth the price?

Florida Highway Patrol told WINK News they have not had any accidents since the new intersection opened, and drivers who used to avoid the intersection altogether say it is bearable now.

“Once you finally reach to that point I remember dreading like oh my gosh but now I’m good,” Adler Alexa said.

Florida Department of Transportation actually allows 4,000 more vehicles to get through the intersection everyday. And pretty soon it will not be the only continuous flow intersection in Lee County.

FDOT plans to add another one at Colonial and Six Mile Cypress. Also in the works is transforming Colonial at I-75 into a diverging diamond. FDOT says it is their busiest interchange in all of Lee and Collier Counties.

Construction for these major projects will start next summer and take several years to complete.
