Weather Advisory: Storms with 40-mph winds in Charlotte, DeSoto, Sarasota counties

NOAA issued a weather advisory for northern parts of Southwest Florida at 3:35 p.m. Saturday.

Western Charlotte County, DeSoto County and southeastern Sarasota County were under advisories for strong thunderstorms from near Babcock Ranch to near Charlotte County Airport until 4:15 p.m.

According to NOAA, storms were moving northwest at 10 mph with half-inch hail and a potential for 40 mph or higher.

NOAA warned of torrential rainfall as a factor that could cause local flooding. Drivers were warned not to travel on flooded roads. Ground lightning was  also possible.

A similar weather advisory expired at 3:45 p.m. for parts of Lee County.
