Palm Beach Blvd closed at Pine Street in Fort Myers due to a gas leak

The Fort Myers Police Department is on the scene of a reported gas leak at Palm Beach Boulevard and Pine Street.

All traffic is being shut down and diverted and businesses are being asked to evacuate.

Drivers should avoid the area until further notice.

20 commercial customers don’t have natural gas from near Terry Park and police are working to reopen Palm Beach Boulevard.

Fire officials say a machine hit a natural gas line underground.

Earlier you could see the gas fumes coming from a mound of dirt. Fort Myers firefighters say the gas line was seven feet below the ground.
