If Jefferey Harvey calls demanding $500, police say to hang up the phone and call them.

The Fort Myers Police Department has received a report that a renewed law enforcement phone scam is being perpetrated on area residents. FMPD has been told that a scammer calls a phone and claims to be “Jefferey Harvey” of the Fort Myers Police Department and demands $500 in back fines be paid immediately, according to the FMPD press release.

The caller even threatens to send a patrol call to the address to collect. FMPD (nor any other law enforcement agency) does not call or show up at your door to collect fines, per the press release. This is a version of the IRS scam and the caller’s name and telephone numbers can quickly change to avoid being identified.

If you receive such a call, please hang up and contact the FMPD at (239) 321-7700, if you have questions.
