The question of whether a Lee County school district leader’s days are numbered has come into question now that a colleague wants him fired.

Board Member Melisa Giovanneli is expected to make a motion to fire Superintendent Dr. Greg Adkins at the next scheduled Lee County School Board meeting.

However, Adkins’ job performance evaluations showed both positive and negative reviews, which means the vote is likely to be close. After speaking to almost all board members at the school district, it’s clear a divide exists on the board’s opinion of Adkins role as superintendent.

“The notion of getting rid of Dr. Adkins or terminating Dr. Adkins hurts children,” Board Member Chris Patricca said.

Adkins ratings by the entire board:

  • Fischer – Effective
  • Giovannelli – Unsatisfactory
  • Patricca – Highly effective
  • Jordan – Highly effective
  • Gittens – Needs Improvement
  • Vaughn – Needs Improvement
  • O’Daniel Morgan – Highly Effective
  • Adkins – Highly Effective

“Perhaps his greatest accomplishment or one of his greatest accomplishments is the passage of the half penny sales tax,” Patricca said. “There is nobody in this community that thought that would be a successful endeavor.”
