A married couple in Charlotte County were rushed to the hospital after a house fire. A neighbor jumped into action to try to put out the fire and ran into the burning home to rescue the woman inside.

Charlotte County Fire & EMS put out a fire at a home in Charlotte Park Sunday.

“I was the only guy who could handle it, and I just went,” neighbor Kevin O’Donnell said. “Didn’t think twice.”

The fire department told us the report of the fire came in around 12:45 p.m. The home is on the 3000 block of Magnolia Way just east of Punta Gorda. Most of the fire was contained in a living room of the home.

According to the fire department’s Twitter post, two renters were taken to a local hospital.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
