Student, 16, suspected of bringing an electric weapon to school

A Cape Coral student is suspected of bringing an electric weapon to school Wednesday.

The 16-year-old suspect faces Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds charge.

The Mariner High School student was called to the assistant principal’s office due to an anonymous tip that the student had a taser-like weapon on school property, the Cape Coral Police Dept. press release states.

After being escorted to the office by a School Resource Officer, an electric weapon was located, the press release states. The weapon was designed to resemble a flashlight and it was inside his front left pants pocket.

The 16-year-old has been taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
