Earlier this week, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), released its 2018 report [PDF download].

There were no shortages of scams. While people across the country are being hit, it seems Florida is near the top of the list of many of them.

Two similar scams that were particularly high in the state are business email compromise (BEC) and email account compromise (EAC). The report shows more than 1,400 Floridians were victims to these types of scams.

“Unfortunately, people click on links, or they send money based on these emails to someone who is doing that fraudulently,” said Eric Sporre, special agent in charge of FBI’s Tampa division. “And we have seen a lot of that type of fraud in this area.”
