There are brand new details about a shooting in a Cape Coral neighborhood. Officers said when they rushed to the home on SE 24th Ave., they found a victim with several gunshot wounds lying on top of a table.

Cape Coral investigators said the nature of the attack sent them immediately searching for a shooter. But, the shooter is still on the loose. Detectives are combing through the evidence they got from worried neighbors, including surveillance footage.

Twenty-four hours ago, the neighborhood looked and sounded completely different. The crime scene tape is gone, the sirens are no longer sounding, but the investigation into what happened continues. Police said the shooting was not random.

It all happened in the middle of the day when someone opened fire behind the Cape Coral home, sending people scrambling. It commotion left neighbors like Lynn Benedict wondering what sparked the chaos on their street.

“I was on my way to an errand and when I came back I saw that the house had been taped off,” Benedict said. “I assumed something bad had happened.”

Cape Coral Police Dept. said officers found one person lying on a table behind the home shot several times. Master Sgt. Allan Kolak noted it appears to be a targeted attack.

A witness told WINK News Monday he saw two men punching the victim before the shooting while he was on his knees.

CCPD did not confirm any specific details about the shooting. More home surveillance shows a car driving behind the home, then driving away soon afterward. CCPD said they have possession of video surveillance.

Now, the search is on for the people who left someone to die in a backyard. It was on as street neighbors describe as a quiet area.

“Kids fight,” Benedict said. “People fight. But nothing bad. Nothing like that.”
