Lee County Public Schools will host a town hall meeting at the Lee County Public Education Center to discuss bus stop safety Tuesday.

“There’s a lot of kids in the dark,” Jenni Daniels in Cape Coral said. “You know, if we didn’t drive safely we could miss them. You know I mean it is very easy if you yawn, blink, you look to pick up your coffee, you could hit a kid. I mean, they need more lights, they need picnic tables or something.”

The push recently to add more robust features and added safety measures at school bus stops in Lee County comes after the hit-and-run crash that killed 8-year-old Layla Aiken in Cape Coral a few weeks ago.

In preparation for the meeting, an email address has been established for community members to share their ideas. The email Busstopsafety@leeschools.net will be monitored by several departments, so every suggestion has the chance to be considered.
