Two Cape Coral teenagers have been arrested, suspected of serious crimes at their high school. One is suspected of stealing money from a classmate who planned to buy a car. The second is suspected of retaliating by punching the victim in the face after he reported the crime.

A 16-year-old faces charges of Robbery by Sudden Snatching and Grand Theft. The 15-year-old faces charges of Retaliating Against a Victim and Battery on a School Employee.

According to the victim, he brought a substantial amount of cash in his wallet to Ida Baker High School intending to buy a car after school, the Cape Coral Police Dept. press release states. While in his last class of the day at school, the victim took his wallet out of his back pocket to put it in his backpack.

The victim began arranging the money in his wallet and a 16-year-old classmate of his snatched all the money from his hand and commented that his property was “took,” per the press release. The teacher and other students witnessed the robbery. The victim told the suspect to give it back, but the suspect then ran out of class as the victim followed him to the restroom.

The suspect hid in a stall and the victim again told him to give the money back. The suspect told him no and that if he “snitched” he was going to beat him up. The suspect would flee the school and was later arrested.

Later in the day, the School Resource Officer at Ida Baker High School was made aware of a 15-year-old student that committed a battery against the victim of the robbery the day before. The victim stated that he was walking out of class to use the restroom when he ran into the suspect. The suspect pointed at the victim.

“Since you got my friend locked up you got smoke with me now,” the suspect said. Then, he proceeded to hit the victim twice in the face.

The incident was broken up by a teacher and she followed the suspect back to class. Once back in class the suspect was highly upset, cursed at the teacher and pushed her.

Both suspects have been transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
