Pickup truck passenger killed in Hillsborough crash with helicopter

At least one person is dead after a helicopter crashed into a pickup truck, killing one of the passengers.

Authorities responded to a fatal crash involving a helicopter and a pickup truck in Hillsborough County just east of Tampa Thursday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the helicopter suffered engine failure and crashed onto 50th Street and Palm River Road. A Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound on 50th St. toward Palm River Rd. when it was struck by one of the turning rotor blades of the helicopter. A passenger in the truck was fatally injured and died.

There were two people in the helicopter. No other injuries are reported at this time.

All lanes on 50th St. And Palm River Rd remain closed due to the crash. FHP advises all drivers to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

FHP is investigating the crash.
