Career fair for Dunbar residents to be held Thursday evening

A first of its kind Career Exploration event specifically for the Dunbar Community was held at the Dr. Carrie D. Robinson Center and the S.T.A.R.S. Complex Thursday.

The fair offered 40 businesses and training providers, bounce houses, face painting and Nathans Hot Dog truck; it’s a Career Fair with a County Fair, family twist.

“As a lifetime resident of the Dunbar Community, I can truly say this is an event that the Dunbar Community has been waiting a long time”, says Africa Newby of CareerSource and one of the several community organizers of the event.

Newby encourages both young and old to come out to Build Your Future and enjoy music, food and learn about career opportunities without leaving the Dunbar Community.

“We have been working hard in conjunction with the City to change the perception of the Dunbar Community”, said Lee Ford, Chair of the 21st Century Collaboration. “As part of the effort we are hosting the first annual career exploration movement right here in the Dunbar Community”. “This is an event organized by the Dunbar Community and local Churches for the Dunbar Community and we look forward to the possibility of changing some lives in Dunbar”, said Ford.

“I think it’s important to remember that the Build Your Future career exploration event is being hosted in the Dunbar Community but we want to make sure to extend a warm welcome to the communities of Lehigh and Tice; all are welcome” said Ward Three Councilwoman, Terolyn P. Watson.
