A family ripped apart. A daughter is left without her mom and her step-dad is a suspect in the planning of his wife’s murder.

“I never thought I’d lose her,” said Veronica Medina, the victim’s daughter, “and now I don’t have a choice.”

Veronica, 20 years old, is speaking publicly for the first time about the death of her mother in December. She died in a horrific way on her Golden Gate Estates driveway.

Her mother’s high school sweetheart and husband, Raymond Colon, is accused of shooting her.

“I understand that he’s the man that raised me for 11 years,” Veronica said. “I understand he was the only father figure that I’d ever known in my life. But he also took the most important thing from me.

“He took the most important person,” Veronica said. “He took my world from me and at the end of the day he’s going to get what he deserves.”

Veronica never thought her step-father would plan out killing her mother. But she is relieved the grand jury indicted him for the First Degree Pre-Meditated Murder. She said her mom is going to miss out on a lot of milestones.

“She will never get to see me get married,” Veronica said.  “She will never get to see me have kids and she was supposed to be there for all of that.”

Veronica said the pair were together for 10 years, but Victoria had thoughts of leaving, which Veronica said could have been the reason Raymond pulled the trigger. Raymond is in jail without bond until his trial. He will appear before a judge for a hearing on April 15.

All Veronica has left of her mother are pictures and memories. Veronica lives in her mother’s home. There is one question that she wants to ask her step-father.

“At one point did I stop being his daughter?” Veronica said. “At one point did he stop caring about me so much that he could do this was I really not worth anything?”
