A man was arrested by North Port police after he fled from them on a motorcycle earlier in March.

North Port Police Department arrested Ruben De La Garza this weekend after he fled when police tried to stop him at North Port High School in early March.

According to the NPPD Facebook post, De la Garza fled police on his motorcycle from the high school after police tried to stop him for traffic violations.

Police said De La Garza sped through the active school zone, endangering students and other drivers on the road.

De La Garza faces charges for Fleeing to Elude, Reckless Driving, No Motorcycle Endorsement and Trespassing on School Grounds.

According to the NPPD post, “We have continued to see an increase in reckless driving by some individuals on motorcycles, giving riders a bad name and endangering the public. This is another reminder to non-law-abiding riders that we will be patient if you run from us, ultimately finding and arresting those that endanger our residents and, in this case, our children.”
