The Cape Coral Police Dept. spends thousands in tax money to deter crime.

The Cape City Council wants better security, especially on SE 47th Terr at the newly completed Cape Streetscape project.

The city is asking for more than $100,000 to implement eight license plate readers that would help locate stolen vehicles, amber alerts and wanted persons.

CCPD plans to create a license plate hot list. It will receive alerts when a specific license plate has been scanned.

But, one of the concerns is over privacy. Images taken from the readers will only be of the license plate and the police dept will not save the photos.

A vote is planned on Monday.
