A barking dog prevented a major fire on Marco Island from damaging other homes.

According to the Marco Island fire chief, they got to the scene of the blaze on the 1100 block of Edington Place around 1 a.m. Saturday after a neighbor, alerted by a dog, called 911.

The chief says the two-story 8 bedroom home was under construction and is a total loss.

The street is a dead-end and is the only road blocked as crews work to keep that fire from starting again.

The chief also says the state fire marshal is on the way to help investigate what started the fire.

No one was injured and no other homes were damaged.
