Smollett was making an “emergency court appearance” Tuesday morning in Chicago, according to a media release. He and his lawyers were expected to speak to reporters at the courthouse following his appearance. "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett is back at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse this morning for an "emergency court appearance" before the judge hearing his disorderly conduct case. No word on what's happening, but he and attorneys will speak afterward. — CBS Chicago (@cbschicago) March 26, 2019 Smollett was charged earlier this month with 16 felony counts for falsely reporting a hate crime. Mark Geragos, an attorney for Smollett, called the indictment “vindictive” and “prosecutorial overkill.” Smollett has insisted he is innocent.
