8-year-old girl killed in hit-and-run at school bus stop in Cape Coral

Cape Coral Police Department is searching for a driver who may have been in a red pickup truck that hit and killed an 8-year-old girl, who died from her injuries in the hospital.

Layla Aiken died after she was hit by a truck while waiting for her school bus at the bus stop Monday morning.

According to CCPD, around 6:18 a.m., Cape Coral police responded to a call for service in reference to a hit-and-run crash at the corner of Northeast Third Ave. and Northeast 19th Terrace.

Aiken’s father, Glenn Aiken, told WINK News her two 9-year-old brothers watched her get hit by the suspected truck that never stopped.

Aiken was a second-grade student at Trafalgar Elementary school.

A Major Crash Investigator, Victim Advocate, Forensics and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to assist with this investigation.
