2 dead in Sunday crash outside of CoolToday Park

On Sunday, a suspected drunk driver hit a car killing two people in the same car. One victim was confirmed dead after the crash. The other victim was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office confirmed two victims are dead Monday after a multi-car crash outside CoolToday Park in North Port.

The crash happened at the intersection of U.S 41 and West Villages Parkway while deputies were directing traffic after spring training game leaving the ball park.

According to SCSO, a 20-year-old female driver caused the initial crash. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the cause of the crash. The victims confirmed dead were in the car initially hit in the crash.

One victim in the first car hit was confirmed dead after the crash. The driver of the car was flown to the hospital to treat critical injuries and is now confirmed dead by law enforcement.

Deputies say the 20-year-old driver slammed into the back of a car, causing a chain reaction, which ultimately involved two other vehicles ahead. An unmanned deputy motorcycle was also involved in the crash. No deputies were harmed in the crash.

The 20-year-old driver was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injures, and her name has not been release while the crash is under investigation.

North Port Police Department is the lead agency investigating the crash.

According to SCSO, the driver, who has been identified, will face charges.
