Like every major event with a lot of people, there are security concerns. WINK News spoke to authorities, as it prepared to keep everyone safe at the Collier County Fair.

Collier County Sheriff’s Office will operate a mobile command post to maintain security at the fair in Naples Thursday.

Inside the vehicle, Collier law enforcement can do anything someone might expect the sheriff’s office to do at a local precinct — taking emergency calls, dispatching deputies, the ability to run tactical operations.

“If you think about what we we’re impacted with over a given year — storms, wildfires, large events — we’ve brought it out on large crimes scenes,” Collier Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. Here, this is a planning and operations area. So, it depends on what the function is. If you want to set this up as an intake for telephone and dispatch for radios, you can do that.”

The command post has everything law enforcement needs to perform its duties on scene with the versatility to meet different needs depending on a given situation.

“It can function as an office, just your normal office,” Rambosk said. “And then, as we get into the other half of the command center, that’s typically where our operations center, the watch commander, the SWAT commander, they’ll be in here.”

The center allows for quicker response time at events like the fair. As the sheriff’s office prepares for the fair, it’s testing cameras, radio and other equipment to make sure it all works properly.

“It just allows us to get near the event rather [than] monitor it from miles and miles away,” Rambosk said. “So that the watch command, incident commander, swat commander can easily access the event locations.”
