North Port man killed on I-75 saving drunk driver in crash

A good Samaritan was killed in a crash while assisting an impaired driver in a separate crash.

Wesley H. Weysham Jr., 59 was killed in a crash on I-75 southbound in Hillsborough County Sunday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a drunk driver in a 2018 Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound on the interstate and came to a complete stop on the inside lane near mile marker 254. Another driver traveling southbound in a 2003 Buick LaSabre crashed into the impaired driver’s car unable to observe or stop in time to avoid the collision.

Accoridng to FHP, Weysham saw the crash and stopped to aid the drunk driver. Weysham helped the driver out of the car and attempted to provide medical care for the impaired driver on the inside shoulder of the road.

According to FHP, A driver traveling southbound toward the crash in a 2010 Toyota Camry failed to see the cars already involved and collided with the drunk driver’s Tacoma, which rotated and hit Weysham who died at the scene of the crash.

According to FHP, the drunk driver’s Tacoma caught fire after the Camry crashed into it and burned completely.

According to FHP, all other crash victims were taken to hospitals to treat injuries. The driver of the Buick was treated for serious injuries, while the other two drivers were treated for minor injuries.
