A promising career was ended abruptly as a Cape Coral Firefighter passed away Saturday.

Christopher Asseff was a well-liked firefighter, who earned the respect of his crew as he was known as a hard worker with a positive attitude. He was hired in July 2018.

Asseff missed his shift on Friday, which prompted a Deputy from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office to arrive at his home. But there was no response from inside.

Soon afterward, a fire battalion chief would arrive. Firefighters were authorized by the Cape Coral Fire Chief to enter into the residence, leading to the removal of an exterior door hinge to open the door.

Deputies proceeded to enter the home where they discovered Asseff on the floor in his Port Charlotte home.

Medical examiners would take his body away.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends, and fellow brothers and sisters,” the Cape Coral Fire Department said in a statement.
