Former Cape Coral employee suing the city for sexual harassment

Published:

Former Cape Coral employee is suing the city, and says the sexual harassment got so bad that she started suffering from anxiety and had to get counseling.

That former employee also claims that city didn’t keep her complaints confidential. It got so bad, she says she even tried to transfer to a different department.

After 13 years working as a customer service representative, the former employee says she faced discrimination and retaliation for reporting sexual harassment.

She claims back in 2016, a coworker made sexual and inappropriate comments to her about another employee. She claims he discussed graphic and vulgar details with her, even after asking him to stop.

The former employee filed a written memo with human resources and that’s when she claims she was treated differently at work.

The City of Cape Coral denies many of the claims in the lawsuit. The document says the woman filing the suit contributed toward a stressful work environment.

The City told WINK News that they do not comment on pending litigation.

A preliminary hearing in federal court is set for next month.
