A Cape Coral woman accepted a plea deal in court Tuesday for a drunk driving incident last year that lead to a vehicle striking two pedestrians.

Colleen Mulder, 38, accepted a plea deal in court that stipulates she will spend five years in jail, then have five years of state probation, for DUI with Serious Injury.

Mulder will also pay $50,000 in restitution to the victims’ compensation fund; have her license suspended for 36 months; plus will pay the associated fines, fees and court costs.

In the afternoon on May 6, 2018, Mulder was driving southbound on Del Prado Blvd. where she rear-ended another vehicle, according to the Cape Coral Police press release. The impact forced the vehicle onto the sidewalk, where it propelled into two people walking.

The vehicle continued on the west side of Del Prado Blvd. S where it collided into a street sign and several newspaper boxes. It would stop in the parking lot.

The walking victims sustained severe injuries, per the press release. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Cape Coral Police said Mulder showed signs of impairment at the scene. The authorities would take her into custody, where she was found with a blood alcohol level of 0.226 percent, exceeding the BAC legal limit of 0.08 percent when behind the wheel of a vehicle.
