Students at Lely High are shocked to learn their friends were involved in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 at mile marker 57 Monday evening.

“I just wanna send my condolences,” said Jedante Ellis, a senior at Lely High. “Many prayers.”

Four teenagers were hurt. Two of them seriously. Sarah Lintz, 19, is in critical condition. Her father tells WINK News that she was in the vehicle with her friends on the way back to her parents’ home in Naples.

Lintz planned on going to class at Florida Atlantic University this morning. But now, she is fighting for her life at the hospital as she is unconscious with a fractured spine, broken leg, lacerated liver and internal bruising.

Florida Highway Patrol said Jonathan Hurtley, 17, was heading northbound when he smashed into the back of a pickup truck that was improperly parked in the outside lane with its flashers on.

No one was in the truck at the time.

“Driving into a car that’s traumatizing,” Ellis said. “Even if it’s not hurt physically, I know mentally that’s messing him up.”

Joshua Jordan, 16, was also hospitalized with serious injuries. Anthony Blanco, 18, was released from the hospital with minor injuries.

It’s a painful reminder to stay cautious on the roads.

“Last night my friend texted me and told me they were in a car crash and showed me a picture of Josh in the hospital bed,” Ellis said. “It looked bad.”
