The Collier County Sheriff’s Office was contacted near 5 p.m. Friday after it appeared there were remains in the wooded area of Napa Blvd. and Pine Ridge Rd. near Naples.

According to the CCSO press release, investigators confirmed Saturday morning the remains are human, and it is conducting a death investigation.

“It feels really strange,” Donna O’Toole said. “It’s kind of scary because I’m here a lot of times by myself.”

Neighbors never expected a crime scene would be anywhere near their homes in Napa Woods Way.

“It could be a dumped body from the east coast,” Cheryl Foley said. “It could be a number of things.”

A forensic anthropology team from FGCU went to the scene to help solve the investigation.

CCSO said there would be no further information available this weekend until the medical examiner has had a chance to conduct a full investigation as well.
