1 dead and 2 injured in deputy-involved crash in Naples

One person is dead and two are injured in a crash, Florida Highway Patrol said, which shut down the northbound lanes on U.S. 41 north of Immokalee Road in Naples for over an hour Saturday.

A Collier County Sheriff’s Deputy, Brian Wiedel, 49, was in the crash when his patrol car hit a Lincoln Continental. The Deputy had minor injuries. Arthur Roshask, 94, drove the Lincoln and was pronounced dead upon his arrival at North Naples NCH. Luan Callery, 80, the passenger in the Lincoln and Wiedel were taken to local area hospitals to treat injuries.

According to FHP, the crash happened in front of the Germain BMW of Naples dealership off the 1100 block of U.S. 41. The driver of a Lincoln crashed into a pole on the road in front of the car dealership, while the patrol car remains in the road, where a roadblock was in place.

According to the state records, this is Collier County’s first fatal crash of 2019.
